Emerging Media Design and Development
Usability and Evaluation Research Methods
In this course, we conducted various usability and evaluation research methods. We began the semester by practicing some evaluation methods, including heuristic evaluations and cognitive walk-throughs. I also created a research brief on DOMA. We proposed an app or website where visitors could check in similar to the State Nature Passport website. To view my work in this class please click the link below.
Nonlinear and Interactive Storytelling
In this course, we looked at nonlinear storytelling concepts and nontraditional narrative designs and experiences. We also talked about interactive storytelling frameworks. We learned a great deal about the metaverse, which was also the subject of our final assignment. To view my work in this class please click the link below.
Applied Research Lab
My research paper was about “What it Means to Be Connected: The Effects of Social Media on Connectivity and Well-Being” we found that for many if not all of our participants that social media supplemented connection but it did not replace real connections that we create daily. Theories and Frameworks in Human-Computer Interaction
The cognitive, behavioral, and social characteristics of users and the situations in which they consume interactive content were topics covered in this course. Each week, we studied a different Human-Computer Interaction theory, wrote papers, and participated in peer discussion boards. To view my work in this class please click the link below.
Transmedia Storytelling and Publishing
In this course, we looked at the fundamentals of cross-platform storytelling, as well as the tools needed to publish across many platforms and theoretical frameworks for generating cross-media and transmedia storytelling. "The Ball State Story" was the title of our final group project. To view my work in this class please click the link below.
Creative Project Lab
I had the pleasure of being a part of the David Letterman Learning Experience. We have spent the year developing plans and creating low-fi prototypes. My subgroup is working on a social media campaign for the program so the majority of the semester has been spent researching best practices on social media and developing a content calendar. Emerging Media and Design Thinking
The semester consisted of empathy research, defining the problem, ideating a solution, creating prototypes, and testing our solutions. In an effort to increase awareness and engagement of the David Owsley Museum of Art, our group concluded the semester with an Instagram campaign titled “Ball State Passport.” To view my work in this class please click the link below.
Interactive Media Design and Development
I learned about prototyping tools and other methods for creating new interactive content communication systems, Web communication tools, and digital interfaces for communication distribution in this course. I had the opportunity to create both rapid and interactive prototypes. To view my work in this class please click the link below.
Professional Capstone in Emerging Media Design and Development
In this study, we investigated the practical uses of emerging media design and development. Individual investigation, creation, and execution of a professional final project in developing new media. To view my work in this class please click the link below.
